Clover is an unfinished manga by CLAMP that takes place in a futuristic world where people known as 'Clovers' have special powers. Currently 4 Volumes have been released, however the story is on 'hiatus' and it is not known when it will continue.

Plot

Clover is primarily about a young girl called Sū (スウ, Sū?). In the futuristic world that she inhabits, the military conducted a search for gifted children nicknamed "Clovers", who seemingly have the magical ability to manipulate technology. Demonstrations of their powers include teleportation and summoning weapons from thin air.

Classified according to how powerful they are, the children were then tattooed with a symbol of the Clover Project, with the number of leaves on the Clover indicating their power. To date, Sū is the only "4-leaf Clover" discovered. Along with other "Clovers", Sū was imprisoned to prevent her contact with other humans, as the government feared that she might develop feelings and be used as a weapon to jeopardize the country's national security.

Being isolated from the rest of mankind, Sū craves for company, and as for her only wish, she asks to visit "Fairy Park." Her escort is Kazuhiko, an ex-military soldier who has been forced to undertake the task. It is later revealed that Kazuhiko and Sū are connected through Kazuhiko's deceased lover, Oruha.

Characters

Suu - The child protagonist of the story. She is a '4-Leaf Clover' who, due to her powers, is forced to live alone in a cage until the beginning of the story when she's allowed to travel to Fairy Park. Suu's journal to Fairy Park covers the first two volumes of the manga and she moves into more of a supporting role for the remaining two volumes.

Kazuhiko - An ex-military man who's lover was killed a few years prior to the start of the story. He is assigned to escort Suu to Fairy Park where he starts to care about her. Kazuhiko has a laid back personality but he is also a skilled fighter who protects Suu more than once during their trip.

Gingetsu - Kazuhiko's close friend and former partner. He is a '2-Leaf Clover' who saves Kazuhiko throughout the journey to Fairy Park. In Volume 4 of the manga he is the one to find and take care the 3-Leaf known as 'C' who recently escaped his cage.

Ran - Gingetsu's partner and ward who is unable to go outside due the fact he's a '3-Leaf Clover'. Originally known as 'C' who, like Suu, was forced to live in a cage. He stars in Volume 4 of the manga.

Oruha - Kazuhiko's deceased lover and a '1-Leaf Clover' who's only power was to know when she'd die. As a singer she is assassinated during the middle of a performance. Prior to her death she becomes friends with Suu through phone calls and they even recorded a song together.

Publication

Clover ran in the magazine Amie from 1997 to 1999 when the magazine went under, leaving the series unfinished. Because the later volumes are told in flashbacks, many fans have wrongly believed the series to be finished.

In 2008 the series was re-released in Japan, while in 2009 it will be re-released in English by the company, Dark Horse.
